Chapter One

Michael came back from his lunch break and checked his breath against the palm of his hand as he walked in the building. Satisfied the breath mint was doing its job, he took a deep breath and headed for the front desk. Relax, he told himself. You’re only about to risk total humiliation.

He fidgeted as he waited for the receptionist to look up. He’d been working at the Buffalo branch office for a month and the sight of Carol was the only thing that kept him from going insane. She was young and blond and absolutely gorgeous.

“Yes?” she asked, finally looking up.

“Oh, yes… hi.”

“Hey.”

“Uh…”

“Can I help you?”

“Well, I thought… I was wondering… Uh, what are you doing tonight?”

“Coming back here for the Christmas party, like everybody else.”

“Right, yes, of course. You see, I was wondering… I was hoping that maybe… I thought possibly we could go together.”

She smiled good-naturedly the way a kindergarten teacher did so after a child brought her a bad drawing. “That’s sweet, Mark.”

“Michael. My name is Michael.”

“I usually go to these things alone. Maybe some other time, okay?”

“Uh, yeah. Sure.”

He put on a brave face, smiled, and took his leave. Another reason to hate Buffalo.

By eight o’clock the party was in full swing. The employees were half drunk and the saxophone-heavy Darlene Love Christmas songs kept people dancing. Michael had moved from the cheap box wine to neat tequila. Human Resources Jason — so-called to distinguish him from Accounting Jason — slapped a hand on Michael’s shoulders.

“Is this a great party, or what?”

“Whatever.”

It would have been so much better with Carol on his arm. He’d been watching her for an hour from across the room. She wore a tightfitting white dress and seemed to be having fun joking with the secretaries.

“Whatever? What are you talking about? We throw the best parties in Buffalo.”

“When I used to work for Google out West, we once had Bon Jovi play our Christmas party. There was a raffle every hour and first prize was a Jaguar. Excuse me if I’m not enthused about your cassette tape player and Costco liquor.”

“We actually went all out this year, so consider yourself lucky the CEO flew in from Pittsburgh to join our shindig.”

They both turned toward the 50-year-old across the room. Next to him was his silver-haired wife who spoke graciously to everyone. Suddenly, sales director Charlie went to speak in the man’s ear. Moments later, the two men joined the regional manager Dirk by the water cooler. They spoke in hushed tones before disappearing in the latter’s corner office.

“So much for the party,” Michael said. “Kind of defeats the purpose if they’re gonna talk business all night.”

His bad mood was compounded when he saw Carol leave the secretaries and join the men in the office. Michael was sincerely disappointed. Here was a beautiful woman, an underpaid receptionist at that, who was forced to work in the middle of a Christmas party.

He heard Jason talk about transforming leading-edge infomediaries or envisioneering integrated niches or some other meaningless bullshit. He wasn’t paying attention. All he wanted was to figure out a way to get closer to Carol. He’d never been so attracted to someone.

“And that’s when I told that Poughkeepsie douchebag that if he wants to utilize next-generation metrics he better come up with a proper way to disintermediate granular deliverables.” Jason stopped talking and looked at his colleague. “Earth to Michael, anybody copy?”

“What the hell are they doing in there? It’s two days to Christmas, everybody’s closed. They can’t possibly be doing business tonight.”

Michael noticed the other man smirk. “What?”

“I was gonna keep this as a surprise for later.”

“What?”

“This had to be cleared with Charlie, Dirk, and the CEO, you understand? This is kind of your Christmas bonus.”

“What the hell are you talking about, Jason?”

“You have to promise not to freak out. And, if for some reason you do, you have to promise to keep your mouth shut.”

“What…”

“Promise.”

Michael paused. He really didn’t understand anything but he was too curious to prolong the mystery any longer. “I promise.”

“Okay, follow me.”

Jason led the way to the corner office and stopped. He looked at the merrymaking crowd; no one was paying attention to him and his coworker. He knocked. They heard footsteps and the door was cracked open about an inch. Charlie’s eyes stared back at them.

“You’re early.”

“I have an eager friend.”

The sales director hesitated and finally opened the door completely to let the two young men in. He hurriedly closed the door behind him and locked it. The room was about 20 feet square. There was a mahogany desk on one side and the rest of the space was set up as a small lounging area with couches and armchairs. Michael’s eyes widened in shock when he saw exactly what kind of work was being performed in this office. Carol was on her knees next to the desk and she had Dirk and the CEO’s dick in her hands.

“Mind if we join you?” Jason asked.

He didn’t wait for a reply. He quickly removed his jacket and loosened his tie. He walked to the threesome and on the way took out his limp cock through the fly. He stroked himself as he watched the receptionist take the CEO into her mouth, sucking him gently.
