Connie stared at the brick building in front of her. Edmondson Hall stood tall compared to the Spruce tree’s growing bedside it. The afternoon sun was glimmering through the tree branches. Connie was momentarily blinded by the light. She swallowed hard and walked toward the building.
This was her last class of the day. She was nervous because chemistry wasn’t her strong point. In high school, she had barely gotten by. She had made her first “D” in chemistry class. Mrs. Wiggum, her chemistry teacher certainly hadn’t been any help. She was an old, bitter woman who seemed to hate teaching.
Connie shrugged her shoulders as if she were shaking off a chill. She pushed the memory from her mind and walked into the building. The lecture hall was small. Only a few students were there. Connie sat at a desk by the wall. “Easy and fast exit,” she murmured under her breath. She opened up her backpack and took out her notebook, a pen, her laptop and her chemistry textbook. Voices buzzed around her. When she turned around the check for a place to hang her sweater on the back of her chair, she was caught off guard by the guy sitting behind her. When had he come in? Her eyes met his and the sudden thrill of attraction hit her. He was gorgeous. Blond ringlets hugged his head and his blue eyes seemed to glow. Finally, after Connie had failed at speaking, he spoke up instead.
“You can hang your sweater there. I promise I won’t knock it off,” he said smiling. The ease at which he spoke made Connie melt like butter. She managed a thank you right as the professor walked through the door.
Halfway through class, Connie felt a tap on her side. She looked down to see a note. The guy behind her was handing her a note! She slipped it out of his hand and opened it up. It read:
“Hi! For someone as beautiful as you, it seems odd that you seem to shy. If you need help this year in chemistry, please don’t hesitate to ask. By the way, my name is Caesar. “
Wow, his name was Caesar. “That is so appropriate,” Connie heard herself say under her own breath.
When class was over, she turned around to grab her sweater. She met Caesar’s eyes again. This time, she took initiative.
“Hi, I’m Connie,” she said giving him her most dazzling smile.
“I meant what I said. If you need any help, let me know. I’m chemistry major,” Caesar replied returning an equally impressive smile.
The students were filing out of the classroom quickly. Connie stood up as she continued her conversation.
“Actually, I could use some help. I’m not very good at chemistry, but my major requires it. Let me give you my number.”
Connie took his hand and wrote her number on his palm. And with that, she turned and walked out of the room. She left Caesar standing there, looking down at his palm, with a beautiful smile on his face. Connie walked to her dorm room and plopped down on her bed. Hot pink and neon green pillows surrounded her. She could not get his face out of her head. Those soft curls, his ocean blue eyes, the entire measure of his face were flawless. Suddenly, chemistry did not seem that dreadful.
She lifted her head and looked for Jana, her roommate. No sight of her. Jana was more than likely in class still. She kept a heavy course load because she wanted to get out as soon as possible. Jana was very different from Connie. Connie preferred a more laid-back approach, while Jana bulldozed through life, knocking over one obstacle at a time. You could see it in the way the room was arranged. Jana’s side of the room was clean and well organized.
Connie’s looked like a peacock had eaten a rainbow and thrown it back up. Brightly colored lamps, pillows, and posters adorned Connie’s side. Piles of clothing lay in the floor. Connie could not believe Jana put up with her. The messy side of the room must have made Jana’s skin crawl.
Connie slid a bottle of Vodka out from under her bed. After a few swigs of Vodka chased by diet cola, she was feeling rather good. Connie finally fell asleep with Caesar’s dreamy blue eyes in her head.
She woke up when Jana walked through the door. She sat down at her desk and pulled out a school book.
“Hey,” said Connie sleepily.
“Hey,” Jana replied while thumbing through the pages.
Connie pulled herself up from the pile of pillows and looked over at her clock. It was just 8 o’clock.
“How was class?” Connie asked.
“It was fine. Typical class, though I got an “A” on my presentation,” Jana beamed.
“That’s awesome, you worked hard on that,” Connie replied while fumbling for some headache medicine. She found two pills and washed them down with diet cola. Silence filled the room. Jana had found her page and had started reading. There is no talking to her when her nose is in a book.
Connie decided a walk through the quad in the nighttime air would do her some good. She stood up and began peeling off her clothes.
“I’m undressing,” Connie warned Jana.
Connie slid off her skirt and panties. Her tank top came off over her head easily. She threw them in the corner by her bed and reached for her robe. Connie slipped on her flip-flops and scooped up her shower caddy.
“I’m headed for the shower first. Be back in a minute,” she told Jana as she strolled out the dorm room door.
She took off her robe and carried her caddy into the shower with her. The cool air made her nipples perk up and caused goose bumps to run along her body. The warm water was a welcome relief as it caressed her slender figure. She turned to get her hair wet. Her long, blond hair brushed against her lower back.
She picked up a loofah and applied a squirt of body wash. She quickly covered her body with sudsy bubbles. The scent of vanilla and jasmine hung in the air. Connie ran her hands along the sides of her body. Her 34-26-34 figure felt perfect in her hands. She ran her hands up her stomach and underneath her breasts. She gently lifted and cradled them in her hands. She let the warm shower water rinse them clean.
After washing her hair, she stepped from the shower. She walked to the mirror completely naked. There was no one else present. Sometimes, Jaylyn would walk through and pinch Connie’s ass just for fun. Jaylyn was a true African beauty. Her skin was as dark as chocolate, and her curves were perfect. Jaylyn like both girls and guys, so living in a dorm with a bunch of girls was a kind of heaven for her.
Connie finished combing her hair and slipped on her robe. She walked back to her dorm room. Jana was still in the same spot. No surprise there.
“Changing,” Connie warned an oblivious Jana. Connie pulled on a pair of black yoga pants and a pink tank top. She slipped on her flip-flops and grabbed her keys. I’m gone. I’ve got my phone if you need anything. Jana sat there for a few seconds before replying, “Ok, sounds good.”
The nighttime air was refreshing. It was still warm enough to go swimming. She decided to walk around the quad a couple of times. She put in her ear buds and tuned out the world. When she was on her second round, a ringtone came through on her ear buds. It was a message. She unlocked the phone screen and pulled down the message. It was from Caesar!
It said that he saw her walk past the library and wondered if she wanted to stop in to study. Connie quickly typed in the message, “I’m on my way now.”
She crossed the road and made her way to the library. She studied her reflection in the glass. Nothing looked out of place. She took a deep breath and opened the door. She looked around for Caesar. To the left, by the window, she spotted him. He was sitting at a table alone. He had been waiting for her to come through the door. He was smiling.
